We have had a fabulous day out at the South of England Carriage Driving Fair at Merristwood Arena. This brilliant event is organised by the Brockham Harness Club and is generally seen as being the start of season get together. Theres great displays, trade stands and food so Carriage Driving enthusiasts, old and new from all diciplines can meet up together and have a good day out. This year Sarah and I were part of the BYD Jump and Drive Display as part of the Blue Team with my best friend Ann, riding her mums horse Nutkin. The idea was the driver (me) drove a short World Cup style course (obstacles and cones) and then the rider jumps a course of jumps in relay. The team with the fastest time wins. Ann and I both had 2 clear rounds and were narrowly beaten into 2nd place. Sarah was incredibly lively as this is the first event I have taken her to in over a year and it certainly is a challenge for even the most well behaved horse, with loud music and cheering crowds. All the BYDs have also spent the day manning our stall, selling cakes, tombola prizes and lucky dips. We have raised over £258 towards the Austria fund which is an amazing achievement! Huge thanks to everyone for supporting us and to my sisters Kiera and Tegan and Anns friend Hester who gave up their entire day to help us, despite not being BYD members. I will sleep well tonight as its back to school for me tomorrow.
